Passover

"In every generation one is obligated to view himself as though he came out of Egypt, as it says: Tell your offspring on that day saying, Because of this God acted for me when I came out of Egypt" (Shemot 13:8).

At Congregation Etz Chaim we have always viewed this teaching rather literally and for the past seven
years we have created a Second Seder unlike any other.

Each year we added more and more to the Passover experience until it felt like the story was really coming to life in our building. The evening starts with a sing- along, a walk through real sand and enactment of the sea splitting, an 8 foot display of how the Israelites camped in the desert, an animatronic lamb and doorpost lintels and so on, each year the displays grow and so does the number of
participants.

In 2019 and 2022 our Second Seder was recognized for its innovative and interactive elements when it received an international grant from the National Jewish Outreach Program. This grant makes it possible for us to invite 30 additional participants to attend our Second Seder.

Maybe you’re alone this year… the kids have decided to stay in Chicago or Los Angeles. Maybe you’ve never done a second night seder. Maybe you find yourself longing for the magical feeling that Passover had in your youth. Come to Congregation Etz Chaim and we will welcome you with open arms. Unaffiliated, culturally/socially Jewish, members elsewhere we won’t tell - just don’t miss the
Exodus as only Etz Chaim can retell it.
